Welcome to The Herodotian!

We are a student-led history magazine based at the University of Oxford. Founded in the summer of 2025, we aim to provide a platform for a wide range of ideas, discussions and debates within the field of History, accepting submissions from all students on a termly theme which can be found on the homepage of this website.

We’re about much more than the straightforward, milquetoast history curricula drummed into you at school. Art, culture, philosophy, science, politics, literature, anthropology and more naturally branch off this Yggdrasil. The question of what history is has stumped even the greatest minds for millennia, and it is not something we pretend we can answer. Therefore, so long as your article is broadly historical, and related to our theme, there are no limits to where it can go. Previous authors have explored the development of drone warfare, the concept of prehistory, female power in politics and the lessons of the past for students of Leo XIV’s papacy. Whether you want to explore an ancient fable whose finer details are were lost with figures long since turned to dust, or a development of yesterday, we’d be delighted to welcome you to the august pages of The Herodotian.
